News from the Cox Lab
September 3, 2024 - Fun in the inaugural Lab Olympics and new Lab Members!
The Danforth Center had its first Lab Olympics and the Cox Lab was fully invested in these fun, competitive event! Gus, Lily, Caroline, Madison, and Kevin comprised of the team “New Lab, Who Dis?” and competed in seven events. It was a lot of fun and the team took home some hardware - Lily placed third in the “Tip Box Refilling” event, and Kevin placed first in the “Pouring Petri Dishes” event (see pics below)!
We welcome Mackenzie Kasarda, who as of September 1st has transitioned from a visiting scientist to a “full” Cox lab member! Additionally, the Cox Lab has its first WashU undergraduate, Jeffrey Forbes, who started on September 3rd!
August 5, 2024 - Conference Talks, New Preprint, Lab Growth!
This summer, Kevin attended the Plant Biology 2024 Conference in Honolulu and the Arabidopsis Conference in San Diego. At the Plant Biology Conference, Kevin served as a panelist in the Single-Cell and Spatial Biology Workshop. At the Arabidopsis Conference, Kevin presented his expansion microscopy in protoplasts work and served as a panelist on a Career Transition panel (see pics below)!
Speaking of expansion microscopy, the work is now up on bioRxiv! The authors included Lily O’Connor (visiting Grad Student), as well as other scientists at the Danforth Center. Check it out here!
We welcome Madison McGregor, who as of August 5th has transitioned from a visiting scientist to a “full” Cox lab member, and Caroline Henry, a visiting scientist from the Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry Facility at the Danforth Center!
July 1, 2024 - Kevin’s first day as a faculty member!
The wait is over! Kevin is officially a joint faculty member at WashU and the Danforth Center as of July 1!
May 16, 2024 - New Lab Space, New Members, New Updates!
A lot has transpired over the last few months! In mid-April, the lab space at WashU completed its renovations and we have began to move our first pieces of equipment in (see pics below). We have also welcomed inaugural members in our lab, Gus Vogt (Lab Manager), Lily O’Connor (Visiting Grad Student), Mackenzie Kasarda, Madison McGregor, and Nicole Burkett (Visiting Scientists)! Some of their profiles are posted in the Lab Members section at the time of this posting.
January 02, 2024 - The Cox Lab is born!
Woohoo! Lab spaces at WashU and the Danforth Center are expected to be open in March 2024.
